Windows 8 Release Date Is October 26, 2012

Good news to all computer users who have been eagerly waiting for the final release of the next-generation of Windows. Steven Sinofsky recently revealed that customers will be able to get Windows 8 final starting on October 26, 2012.

Microsoft plans to RTM Windows 8 in early August, and TechNet & MSDN subscribers will be able to procure their copies by the end of August.

As you may know, Windows 8 is designed to work with both touch screen devices and traditional computers. All new Metro Start screen, Metro-style apps, Windows Store, file history, refresh PC, reset PC, new lock screen, ribbon explorer, and Hyper-V in client are some of the main attractions of Windows 8.

Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 users will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 for just US $39.99 and the offer will run through 31st Jan, 2013. Users who are testing Windows 8 Release Preview are also eligible for this upgrade provided that they have an underlying license for XP, Vista, or Windows 7.

While Windows 7 users will be able to upgrade by keeping everything (personal files, user account settings and installed programs), Windows Vista users will be able to bring along Windows settings and personal files. And Windows XP users will loose everything except personal files during the upgrade.

 People who bought a Windows 7 computer from June 2nd, 2012 to January 31, 2013 will able to purchase an upgrade to Windows 8 for just $14.99.

Along with the general availability of Windows 8, Microsoft also plans to release its Surface for Windows 8 RT tablet.

Users who can’t wait for the final release of Windows 8 can download and install Windows 8 Release Preview build to explore the new features of Windows 8. One can install Windows 8 on VMware virtual machine, install Windows 8 on VirtualBox, or even install Windows 8 in dual boot with Windows 7, or XP.
