The newly released November Update for Windows 10 brings several old and new features to the operating system. The ability to change the title bar color or make title bar colored was one of the most requested features and is finally available with Windows 10 November Update.
On Windows 10 (with November Update), one can make the title bar colored by navigating to the Personalization section of Settings, clicking Colors, and then turning on the option labeled Show color on Start, taskbar, action center, and title bar.
While the new feature does enhance the look of applications and file explorer, there is an issue with this new feature. As you likely have observed by now, there is no way to enable only the title bar color without showing color on the taskbar, start menu and action center.
Enable title bar color without turning on the Start menu and taskbar color
The default black color on the Start as well as the taskbar is loved by most and there are many users who prefer to see color on the title bar without changing the default color of the taskbar and start menu.
Unfortunately, there is no option neither under Settings nor Control Panel to turn on color for title bar without enabling color for start menu and taskbar. Luckily, you can do so by editing the Registry.
Complete the directions given below to enable title bar color without enabling color for start menu, taskbar and action center.
Step 1: Right-click on the desktop and click Personalize option to open the Personalization section of Settings.
Step 2: Click Colors. Turn off the option labeled Start, taskbar, and action center and Title
Step 3: Type Regedit in Start menu or taskbar search box and press Enter key. Click Yes button when you see the User Account Control dialog. Note that you can also open the Registry Editor by typing Regedit in Run command box and then press Enter key.
Step 4: Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM
Step 5: On the right-side, double-click on the entry named ColorPrevalence (refer to the picture above), and change its value to 1 (one) to show color on title bar without showing color on Start, taskbar and action center.
Step 6: Finally, close the Registry Editor. That’s it! Rebooting your PC is not required. Good luck!
Important: The ColorPrevalence value goes back to 0 (zero) once you turn on or off the option labelled Show color on Start, taskbar, action center, and title bar present under Settings app. If that happens, follow the above mentioned directions to set its value back to 1 again.
