Where Does Voice Recorder App Save Files In Windows 10

Tens of useful apps ship with Windows 10. One of them is the Voice Recorder app. As the name of the app suggests, it’s an app to record voice on your Windows 10 device.

With Voice Recorder, you can record class lectures and interviews very easily, provided that your PC comes with a microphone, and a proper device driver is installed.  Voice Recorder allows you to record audio for close to three hours per recording file. Additionally, it can be used with other apps, meaning you can use Voice Recorder to record music or audio being played by a web browser or media player on your PC.

The ability to start recording or resume a paused recording in one click, share your recordings, auto-save, and mark key moments in the recording are the highlights of this Voice Recorder in Windows 10. Besides that, it allows you to playback, trim, and rename recordings.

If you often use Voice Recorder on your Windows 10 device, you likely know the location where Voice Recorder saves recordings. But many users are not sure where recorded files are saved by the Voice Recorder app on a Windows 10 PC.

If you’re wondering about the location where Voice Recorder saves voice recordings in Windows 10, you can find the recordings under the following locations.

Location of recordings done by Voice Recorder in Windows 10

If you’re using a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10, Voice Recorder creates a new folder named Voice Recorder under the Documents folder of OneDrive and saves all recordings there. That is, all recordings done with Voice Recorder can be accessed by navigating to

C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Sound recordings

Or

C:\Users\UserName\OneDrive\Documents\Sound recordings

In the above path, “C” is the drive where Windows 10 is installed, and UserName is your user account name.

In early versions of Windows 10, the Voice Recorder app used to choose different locations based on the type of user account used to sign in to Windows 10. That is, it used to use a different location for both Microsoft and local user accounts. However, in recent versions, the app seems to be using only one location (C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Sound recordings) for all types of accounts.

You don’t need to manually navigate to the Sound recordings folder. The Voice Recorder app itself offers a way to access the Sound recording folder. Right-click on a recording and then click Open file location to open the folder containing your voice recordings.
